The Best Happy Hour In Dallas?

By Colin - Posted on 02 March 2009

What could make the best happy hour in Dallas? Could it be a homey atmosphere complete with audio visual entertainment and massive amounts of food? Could it be live music, intellectual stimulation or a classic design style? I don't know about any of the above, but when I think of the best happy hour in Dallas, I think cheap. After all, a good happy hour is really one which enables one to drink large amounts of alcohol on a small budget. So what happy hour could possibly compete with one that's free?

Yes. Free.

At Amelia's Place on Gaston Avenue, the happy hour is completely free. Unfortunately, however, there is no mention on her website about happy hour time - or what the specials actually are. But once you step inside, you'll be able to enjoy a drink, a book (from an "eclectic" collection), some piano playing, a quality VHS movie, or just some good ol' fashioned conversation.

A self proclaimed feminist, Amelia, who is native to Louisiana, is known to make the best breakfast in 3 parishes, so you might want to consider staying the night! Which is perfect, because her establishment with the free happy hour is, you guessed it, a bed and breakfast! For $90 a night (covers taxes, parking, a breakfast big enough to cover two meals, free happy hour, DSL AND Wi-Fi), you can stay in this classically styled, cozy inn.

I do warn you though, Amelia has a strict no bigots policy, as she says on her website, "Amelia welcomes people of any color, unmarried couples, same-sex couples, smokers. Amelia’s place is not suitable for children, pets, snobs, bigots, nor fanatics."

Amelia's Place is located at 5425 Gaston Avenue, Apartment #112. To make reservations, or to inquire about the free happy hour, call 214-827-3779. You can also view pictures of the establishment at her website, http://www.ameliasplace.com/
