Lota's Goat
Lota's Goat is apparently a dive bar's dive bar... if you know what I mean. Located somewhere around Lakewood, Lota's Goat is one of those places that you just have to like, if only for it's sheer unwillingness to die. Bar padding is held up by red duct tape, and the furniture is as old as the dive itself. Lota's Goat is even open in the mornings for hardcore weekend (or weekday?) drinkers. Lota's Goat also features a stage for live music and karaoke, plus a vintage arcade machine. Oh, and did I mention that Busch Light is only $1.25 from 7 to 10 am? That's right. AM beer specials.
Dyer Street Bar
The Dyer Street Bar is a laid-back dive bar in SMU territory on, you guessed it, Dyer Street. The Dyer Street Bar is a hole in the wall dive bar where you can get cheap drinks, watch HDTV, play pool, and listen to music, all in one place. Best of all, Dyer Street isn't overrun by a certain breed of obnoxious SMU grads either, so it's safe for a few after work drinks.
Copper Spur Saloon
Copper Spur Saloon is a dive bar located in North Dallas. The Copper Spur Saloon features cheap drinks, a clean, laid back atmosphere and plenty of entertainment options. At Copper Spur Saloon, you can play a rousing game of shuffleboard, a round of poker, some pool, and when you're done with the games, put a quarter in the juke box and hit up the dance floor. Copper Spur Saloon is a hidden gem of a dive bar that you should definitely check out soon.
Club Schmitz
Club Schmitz is a purists Dallas dive bar. Known for its burgers and long time wait staff, Club Schmitz is the place to visit if you want an unpretentious drink and a greasy burger. If you want to go to a dallas bar that makes you feel like you've stepped in a major time warp, check out Club Schmitz, and don't let it's Harry Hines location scare you!
Ships Lounge
Ships Lounge is a Dallas Dive Bar establishment. Part myth, part legend, Ships is a drinkers bar. Ships Lounges is not your typical Lowest Greenville bar. At Ships, not only can you bring your own bottle of liquor (they only server beer or boxed wine), but there's a strict no-swearing policy. Ships is known for it's rockin' juke box, and for the owner's penchant for buying rounds of drinks for bar patrons.
Ships Lounge has been open for almost 50 years, and the decor almost hasn't changed one bit in that time. Be sure to go to Ships with a few close friends, and not a large group.
Time Out Tavern
Time Out Tavern, or simply - The TOT, is a divey sports bar that is beloved by many of our readers. Don't be fooled by its exterior apperance, as the Time Out Tavern is a welcoming, low-key bar where you can just as easily go for a few beers after work as you could for the Sunday game.
The Billiard Bar
The Billiard Bar is a Greenville Avenue staple that's known for pool, cheap drinks and a laid back atmosphere. Don't go there expecting a classy night on the town, go to the Billiard Bar expecting a night of good ol' fasioned drinking. Did we mention they have cheap drinks?
Bryan Street Tavern
Bryan Street Tavern is a spacious, awesome bar - inside and out! Outside, a gravel patio complete with tons of picnic tables and a beautiful view of the Dallas skyline. Inside, there's an area for live music and areas for seating - with couches! They serve great pizza at great prices - grab a beer and stay awhile!
Barbara's Pavillion
Barbara's Pavillion is a fabulous Oak Cliff gay bar. Barbara's Pavillion, (or simply - The Pav) is known for its Karaoke nights, friendly service, and laid back vibe. Barbara's even has a copy of Rock Band that's they'll dig out from time to time for people to play (how cool is that?) Be sure to give Dan's jello shots a try for only $1, you won't be dissapointed!
Barbara's features karaoke every Monday at 8pm and Thursday at 9pm.
Happy hour specials Monday through Friday from 4pm - 8pm.
The Green Elephant
If there's one thing Dallas knows how to do right, it's dive bars. In a lot of other cities, you go to a dive bar, and you leave a few minutes later - either because you're disgusted, you really didn't fit in, or you happened to piss off the bartender. In Dallas, however - you find a dive bar, and you find a place where you can just hang out and be yourself. The Green Elephant fits this category, and falls in a similar category to Lee Harveys and Lakewood La
